I find myself in Costa Rica on this day when I would love to be in Boston. Ryan turns 24 today and being the "birthday celebration" girl that I am, it is very difficult to be so far away. I love parties, I love giving gifts, and I love to celebrate my children. I have to say Lauren has done so much for Ryan that I feel excited and thrilled that on this birthday Ryan is married and I love the fact that his love is doing all the things I would do to make his day special!
Then today is Groundhogs Day! Today Punxsatawney Phil saw his shadow and there will be six more weeks of winter, of course here in Costa Rica, it is continual summer! or at least continual spring! I love this weather!
Here in Costa Rica it is presidential election day. They vote every 4 years. This year a man will replace the outgoing president who is Costa Rica's first female president, Laura Chincilla. People don't speak well of her so I get the feeling that the public is happy for this day. Politicians are only able to run for 4 months! There is only a 2 week span that the candidates can be on the airwaves. The campaign begins with a 2 week span that each candidate is able to put up billboards. It is so different here! It comes and goes so quickly it is hard to believe that it is a critical election.
We spent the afternoon in the capital so that we could take in the sights and sounds of a presidential election. It was really fun. Lots of horns, flag waving, and excitement. As we arrived home, there is so much horn blowing in the streets. I wonder if it will go all night! Voting is from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m.Maybe the horns we will hear later will be those of the winners team!
