Culture experience 101

It's funny living in another country for many reasons. Living out another language and culture daily is, let's say, funny, taxing, exciting, stressful, pure concentration, observant, difficult, and fun! How's that for descriptive!

Since Denny and I work in a learning institution every day we get the educational slant and the academic side of the culture real well. We do not party with ticos every day! Something I have learned, the 50th birthday is as important and expensive as the 15th birthday party. (the quincenera) When a person turns 50 the family hosts a great big party.

Our administrative assistant turns 50 on February 15, however her birthday party was Saturday and we were invited, which we thought was so very thoughtful. Her favorite flower is the sunflower so her cake and decorations were those.

It's interesting how in a Latin Culture dance is so very important. The party goers danced the night away!

The last 2 pictures have a story. After the masks and noise makers were passed around, a dance troop came in with like 10 drums and they went at it non stop for 30 minutes. I went outside so I wouldn't get a headache! haha!!
Denny put his sound meter on his phone and it got to 103! He was like.....look....look.....its going to affect our ears! haha!! We were sounding like old folks!

I took video of the happening so I could remember it! haha!

Well. Happy birthday Dina, a little early!
